​At the beginning of a project cycle, learners need an opportunity to organize their ideas and imagine the possibilities. This sheet balances preliminary thoughts and research with questions and a vision. This document is used for incubation.

Incubation Steps

During the Incubation process, students follow these steps to guide their share-out. Typically, each student gets one copy of this document to take notes while they share their project idea. 
​Incubation Note-taking Sheets PDF 
Learners will use this document during the ideation step of the protocol. At the completion of a share-out, students will give this sheet to the presenter. For a group of 4 students incubating together, print 3x the number of members. For a group of 6, print 5x the number of members.

​As one of the first formal documents required by students, the rubric asks them to identify the content they will analyze throughout the process. It also asks them identify what they will create to show their understanding of the content. Time management and communication skills are also linked to the rubric.

One of the critical documents for customized learning, this requires students to link standards to their project ideas and direction. It also solidifies the content they plan to investigate throughout the project cycle.

​Example of Standards PDF
This is an example of CommonCore reading writing standards for social studies and some standards I developed for a course title Self in the Modern World. A list of standards would be shared with students to integrate into their project. They would need to explain how they are tied to the thinking skill.

​The project update form allows for students to reflect on their time management, communication, and overall progress during the project cycle. The forms include 3 variations to provide different points of reflection each week of the project.

End of Project Grading Sheet Google Docs 
This document is for your personal use or with a small team of teachers. Throughout the project, use this document to keep notes from 1:1 meetings or to share links with students. At the end of the project, share your notes about their successes and shortcomings. It will provide immediate feedback (if shared via Google Drive).

This is a quick, half-sheet self assessment for learners to reflect on their process over the project cycle.

Within each format, there are 4 variations to the tracker. Select the tracker that best aligns with your needs.This should be used by students to track the submission of work and/or identify their meetings with you (and other teachers, when applicable). Use the Keynote or PowerPoint documents to make modifications. If Using the Google Slides version, select the copy you wish to use and ask students to make a copy and share.

An essential document to track student progress. Note the dates of 1:1 meetings held, mini-lessons attended, and work submitted.
